Happy Mother Of The Bride
When my daughter got married, I was so happy as the mother of the bride. This day was very special for me, and even if she did not say it in so many words, she was relying fully on my support in the days and weeks before the wedding
My daughter has many friends and she can always count on them for many things. But all mothers and daughters are aware of what is really happening the last days before the wedding and it felt great being there for her giving the support that she needed.
I've heard from a friend of mine that she wished that her mother had taken her role of mother of the bride more seriously. The support that she offered was lovely but limited by her father. Even though he was happy his daughter was getting married, something as big as a wedding and the accompanying party was not really his cup of tea. He preferred to keep things simple and didn't like to dress up and meet all the people. The excitement of a wedding was too much for him and he leaned a great deal on her mother when she actually needed her.
I was lucky my daughter involved me in as many things as she could. She asked me to go shopping together and find a beautiful mother of the bride outfit for me to wear on her special day. I could have gone through my closet and find something matching to her dress but I preferred to buy something new. I never was one for wearing dresses so I bought myself a beautiful pantsuit.
Of course we did have our arguments and disagreements as stress was building up as the date was getting closer. I admit I can be a bit pushy sometimes to have things my way but after all it was her wedding day. The smile of happiness when she glanced at me on the aisle was worth it all. She made it clear to me how much it meant to her and I was honored to be the mother of the bride.
